Longvida® Optimized Curcumin

What is Longvida® Optimized Curcumin?

Longvida® Optimized Curcumin is a proprietary formula containing the natural antioxidant curcumin, and is optimized for maximum targeting of curcumin into blood and tissues. It was developed over several years by an elite group of university neuroscientists at UCLA working on Alzheimer’s research. Longvida® Optimized Curcumin took years to develop and perfect, and is now being used in several ongoing clinical trials. Longvida® Optimized Curcumin is a mixture of ‘generally recognized as safe’ (GRAS) food ingredients and is based on natural ingredients found in the food chain.

How is Longvida® Optimized Curcumin different from regular ‘turmeric 95%’?

Longvida® Optimized Curcumin addresses the key problem of proper absorption: why ‘generic’ curcumin shows great things in the test tube and in animals, but only insignificant positive trends in human clinical trials. Patent-pending SLCP™ Technology used in Longvida ensures a safe, natural composition that promotes absorption into the bloodstream and various organs. And because it is about how much curcumin is absorbed, not what is consumed, high amounts of curcumin are no longer needed, thus reducing the chance for gastrointestinal irritation.

Is Longvida® Optimized Curcumin safe?

The Curcumin found in Longvida® Optimized Curcumin is a 100% natural, generally recognized as safe (GRAS) food additive, and has been used in traditional medicine and food for thousands of years. In clinical studies, Curcumin showed a positive safety profile at doses of 8-12 grams (8,000-12,000 milligrams) per day.(7,22) Longvida® Optimized Curcumin is reported to have an excellent safety profile, and showed no acute high-dose toxicity at the highest dose tested, a dose equivalent to 1000 times the recommended dose.

Is Longvida okay for people with dietary restrictions?

Longvida® Optimized Curcumin contains all ingredients found in our food chain, contains no animal products, and is gluten-free. Longvida® Optimized Curcumin may contain ingredients made from corn and soy. Longvida is made using ethylene dichloride (EDC)-free techniques.

What precautions should be taken when using Longvida® Optimized Curcumin?

Since each individual has different medical needs, we recommend that you speak with your healthcare practitioner about Longvida® Optimized Curcumin. Use during chemotherapy should only be performed under the direct supervision of a qualified medical professional. Curcumin may enhance the action of anti-platelet drugs, high doses of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or warfarin. Do not take if you have a biliary tract obstruction or are taking a steroidal anti-inflammatory such as prednisone.

How is Longvida® Optimized Curcumin made?

Cutting-edge Solid-Lipid Curcumin Particle (SLCP™) technology (patent pending) is responsible for the ‘magic’ of Longvida®. Simply, curcumin is processed in a way that stabilizes and coats it with the ideal absorption-promoting system that facilitates steady, extended transfer of curcumin across biological membranes, especially those entering the bloodstream and target tissues. Longvida® is also processed under Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), in such a way to ensure identity, purity, activity, and consistency of Longvida’s benefits and Quality Control.

What is Longvida™ Optimized Curcumin good for?

Curcumin has been studied for various health applications, including the promotion of longevity and cognitive health. As of January 2010, more than 3100 publications on curcumin were available through the NIH medical database and in ongoing human trials. Many have reported that Longvida® Optimized Curucmin may help promote joint health and flexibility, and help to modulate inflammatory responses already within the normal range. Curcumin is also a potent antioxidant and is used in skin products as an anti-microbial and healing agent. Universities and medical centers are looking at Longvida® Optimized Curcumin for a variety of areas that curcumin has shown beneficial effects.

How is Longvida® Optimized Curcumin different from other ‘bioavailable’ turmeric extracts?

Longvida® Optimized Curcumin is unique because it is university-developed, researched in humans, and has shown great promise in several studies. Longvida is made using expensive, top-quality ingredients including EDC-free, natural high-curcumin turmeric extract. Precise attention to detail, and the accuracy of facts and results, is the hallmark of Longvida® Optimized Curcumin.

Can I get the same benefits from eating curry or mixing curcumin with various oils or fats?

During the years of development of Longvida® Optimized Curcumin, many formulas were tested using those mixing with various oils, fats and other ingredients. Test formulas using high amounts of purified curcumin with lipids often showed a small bioavailability advantage, but none of the test formulas were able to provide blood levels high enough to reach the target concentration. The average serving of curry contains about 6 milligrams of curcumin, which may help promote health, however it is likely that such a small amount of curcumin may not make a significant impact on their health.

Who is currently working Longvida® Optimized Curcumin to research it benefits?

Longvida® Optimized Curcumin is patent pending and based on innovations developed by the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA), a prestigious research institution, and several universities and medical centers around the globe are focusing on the effects of Longvida® Optimized Curcumin including two NIH studies currently in process.

Does Longvida® Optimized Curcumin contain black pepper or piperine?

No. Longvida® Optimized Curcumin does not contain piperine or any other compounds known to significantly interfere with the body’s natural detoxification systems.

Does Longvida® Optimized Curcumin contain any essential oils from the turmeric root?

No. Longvida® Optimized Curcumin does not contain essential oils from turmeric, since these components have not been evaluated for safety or efficacy, and currently do not have accurate testing methodology available for their quantitative measurement.

Is Longvida® Optimized Curcumin checked for heavy metals?

Longvida® Optimized Curcuminis is made with the most stringent quality control parameters, and its quality is ensured with traceability and paper trails from the source. Each batch is tested to ensure it complies with regulatory agencies. In fact, Longvida® Optimized Curcumin meets or exceeds California Proposition 65 for heavy metal content, which is among the highest standards for heavy metals.

Does Longvida® Optimized Curcumin contain ethylene dichloride?

1,2 dicholorethane, (Ethylene dichloride, or EDC) is a harmful solvent used to inexpensively extract curcumin from turmeric root. The curcumin in Longvida® Optimized Curcumin contains no EDC, unlike many standardized turmeric extracts found on the market.

Does Longvida® Optimized Curcumin reach efficacious concentrations in target tissues such as the brain?

You may know that curcumin must get into the bloodstream in order to do anything. But getting into blood is not enough. It must reach a concentration high enough in order to penetrate target tissues, such as the brain. Longvida® Optimized Curcuminis a pioneer in the field of reaching target curcumin concentrations in the blood and target tissues.

Is Longvida® Optimized Curcumin standardized for its bioactivity?

It is well established that it is not how much curcumin you consume, it is about how much you absorb. An intricate standardization system, including micro-visualization of the SLCP™, along with an array of physical and chemical analyses using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Tandem Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance imaging (NMR), Ultraviolet Spectrometry, Inductively-Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP/MS) and other instrumentation are used to standardize and ensure the activity, potency, and consistency of Longvida® Optimized Curcumin.

POMELLA® Pomegranate Extract

How is POMELLA® different than other Pomegranate products?

When medical researchers at a prestigious university were looking at various parts of the diet to find the best antioxidant candidates to promote cardiovascular health, healthy aging, and longevity, pomegranate was found to have the top activity in their models. So they set about to figure out what exactly was in pomegranate that makes it so active.

They found a group of potent antioxidants called punicalagins. Punicalagins are ellagitannin polyphenols that are among the most ferocious scavengers of free radicals, and also displayed some other interesting activities, such as potent modulation of inflammation and protective effects on DNA and cellular signaling. Punicalagins are unique because they are able to break apart, or hydrolyze, into ‘daughter’ polyphenols (such as ellagic acid) once in the bloodstream, and extensively metabolize and absorb into target tissues.

But there is a catch to pomegranate bioavailability (how well they get absorbed by the human body). The researchers found that if punicalagins (part of the active ingredients in POMELLA) get broken down by digestions before they enter the bloodstream, they do not absorb.

And while punicalagins are the primary factor contributing to the high antioxidant potency of pomegranate juice, pure 100% pomegranate juice can be expensive and is not standardized to contain consistent amount of punicalagins. In fact, research has shown pomegranate juice can have more than 100% variability in polyphenol content, in addition to a high amount of sugar and calories.

Does POMELLA® contain all the healthy polyphenols in pomegranate?

Yes, in fact, synergies are found when the overall effect is often greater than the sum of its parts by have the full amount of the polyphenols. While punicalagins are responsible for the bulk of the activity of pomegranate polyphenols, it is the preservation of the natural polyphenolic ratio, or natural spectrum, which has been shown most potent and bioavailable.

This synergy may also explain why pomegranate tops the list of all antioxidant-rich beverages, why POMELLA® Extract tops the list of several different antioxidant assays, and is severalfold more active in LDL oxidation assays than pure ellagic acid.

How is POMELLA® different from other pomegranate extracts?

The approach to developing POMELLA® Extract was quite different. Flying in the face of status quo for nutritional product development, the evolution of POMELLA® in university research was not driven by business interests or cost, but by what offers superior bioactivity and bioavailability. POMELLA® Extract is the culmination of a complex research process that compared dozens, if not hundreds, of different forms of pomegranates in various antioxidant and bioavailability models
What the researchers found as the best form of pomegranate was quite intriguing, and very different from the low-cost pomegranate extracts that were commonly found on the market.

The POMELLA® Secret?

Nature has known this unique formula for ages, in the form of the natural polyphenolic profile of pomegranate fruit. Yet there is a bit of patented magic in POMELLA®, preserving the punicalagins as part of the natural spectrum of the pomegranate.

The most active pomegranate extract from the pomegranate research contained the ’Natural Spectrum’ of polyphenols from pomegranate fruit—including the potent punicalagins, the top antioxidants behind the fruit’s scavenging power.

Proprietary and published research shows that POMELLA® Extract maximizes the synergistic and additive effects of pomegranate.

B-Vitamins

Are B-Vitamins safe to take at high doses?

The safety record of the B-complex vitamins is extraordinarily good. Since their discovery in 1911, many thousands of studies have verified an unequaled therapeutic value of these essential substances. Side effects have been rare with B-vitamins, and toxicity is nearly nonexistent, even at the highest doses.

What are the health benefits of taking B-vitamins?

B-vitamins are necessary in order to:

  • Support and increase the rate of metabolism
  • Enhance immune and nervous system function
  • Maintain healthy skin and muscle tone
  • Promote cell growth and division, including red blood cells

Do B-vitamins store in the body?

All B-vitamins are water-soluble and are dispersed throughout the body. We need a continuous supply of B-vitamins in our diets through food sources or supplements since they are not stored and excess amounts are excreted in the urine.

N-acetylcysteine (NAC)

What is N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and where does it come from?

N-acetylcysteine is a natural derivative of the amino acid, cysteine. It is the most bioavailable precursor of glutathione peroxidase, one of the body’s most important antioxidant enzymes. N-Acetyl Cysteine (C5H9NO3S) is an L-Cysteine derivative that is more stable than L-Cysteine. While L-Cysteine is readily found in the diet – mostly from lean meat sources, NAC is not present in the diet and must be obtained via dietary supplementation. As an L-Cysteine derivative, NAC is more water soluble, and therefore much more bioavailable than regular L-Cysteine.

What does NAC do and what scientific studies give evidence to support this?

Research has established that NAC exerts powerful antioxidant effects. In this role, NAC scavenges the body for, and neutralizes, harmful free radicals that can cause oxidative damage to muscle tissue, bodily organs, and DNA. As an antioxidant it may reduce oxidative stress. NAC can boost immune system function by acting as a glutathione precursor.
